Summer hues and cues!

Chirpy, fresh and all things bright is what summer is all about. While the season of monsoon has been extremely harsh on the Chennai-tes this year, we take inspirations from the summer to create interesting interiors.

The shades of summer are warm and vibrant and hence the output is nothing less than radiant. While pastels are one way to go the palette of warm colours is another way to handle things with a twist. The pastels can be usually preferred for walls, while by itself the pastels create a statement mild textures can be added for accentuation. Pastel fabrics are always a huge hit among consumers and when mixed up with the right pattern is the best for curtains and spreads. There might be a factor of high maintenance as an issue but the result will be worth it.

And speaking of patterns, prints play a major role in the expression of interiors and summer prints are purely charming and eye-catching. Composing a variety of flora and fauna elements in its print palette, they are sure to elevate the look of an interior by giving a free-spirited vibe like that of a bohemian.

The primary thing to focus while playing with prints is to match and balance. Deciding on prints can be a little overwhelming and needs to be handled with utmost care in order not to create chaos.

While the aesthetics are sorted the medium through which this needs to be presented is what comes next. ‘Textiles and Materials’. As far as textiles are concerned it is better to stay away from anything leathery and opt for things that are light and bright. Jute can be put into good use in the theme of summer other than the likes of cotton, linen and a dash of silk here and there to favour the elegance factor. Lightwood is usually preferred to send a summer vibe and it can be used alongside bamboo and cane. Metals can create a jarring effect so it is better to stick with wood and its sister materials.

When it comes to lighting, make sure to use an ample amount of natural light and use minimal artificial light. As the hues of summer are extremely bright it is better to expose it to natural light to create a breezy effect rather than an ambiance that itches the eyes. Make good use of the natural light and besides, there can be a little use of artificial lights like floor lamps and pendants. In terms of colour use cool lights majorly with little warm lights for accent.

And the décor inspired from summer can be beautiful and exotic. From quirky flip flops to ethnic masks and exquisite tapestry works for wall works can all be good choices of décor. Cushions in abundance are the secret for a cozy sofa in a summer vibe and buy it in fun prints and colours to add the charm. Make sure to pair it up with lots of botanicals for the green factor.

And as for the layout and furniture options are concerned, stay away from anything conventional.

Throw in charpoys, benches, open bookshelves and futons to name a few. Some light rugs on the floor and throws on the sofa. The ultimate goal is to keep the tone of the interiors young and cool but isn’t that the irony.
